If Wishes were Fishes…

So I’ve put this dev team together and we are running through the milestones like our collective a** is on fire. I’m finding more and more, however, that running the production end of things is really crowding out the art end of things. I’ve had to hand off more and more of the things I like to do, in fact many of the things I *wanted* to have as my role in developing the project have been turned over to other artists for the sake if efficiency and expediency.

I feel like I’ve stumbled upon one of those unmentioned moments, the ones that go with the territory that no one ever really brings up.

That moment when one sacrifices one role for another, when you stop being an artist to shepard the whole team as an Art Director. When you give up being a programmer in order to makebyour vision happen as a producer. I know this doesn’t work out for everyone, I have at least one old friend who stepped into the producers role and fled back to the safer haven of artist. I have to wonder if it’s common.

Better than thou

School let’s out early on Wednesdays. What this means for us is that all classes (which on other days have different start and end times) are released at once. Parking, as you can imagine, is limited.   Extremely limited. So limited in fact, that more than a few parents bring the younger siblings and have a picnic on the playground while they wait, just so they can get their early enough to get a good spot. It’s become a test of one-upsmanship that has parents volunteering to work at the school on Wednesdays just so they will already be parked and ready when the bell rings at noon.  As anal-retentive as this might seem, it has the added benefit of socializing the parents, afterall, stick a couple people in a waiting room for long enogh and they will start to socialise. Add a few kids and snacks and you’ve got yourself a playdate.
