Going Once….. Going Twice…..

So I have chosen, yet again, to be in charge of the online auction for my son’s preschool.  Because the school is under the umbrella of one of the local colleges as a “learning laboratory”, the State cuts to education are going to trickle down to us sooner or later, so what had originally started as a school only event has, over the past few years, transitioned into a largish-scale online event.  Fortunately this year (as last) there is a truly kick-a** team of parents working together to make the auction happen.  We get a lot of cool stuff, particularly because our donors include companies like EA and Mio and a bunch of the local tech-groups.

Artists eye

As a texture artist I am very aware of how things tend to pattern in an environment. Grass clusters, tile patterning, how one segment of a “live” texture is different from another so I can replicate it in digital media.

What really annoys me is when I see a real-life “tiling, non repeating” texture. In this particular case it happened to be some plastic wainscoting in the school bathroom. It was pretty close, but not quite. A pebbly, stucco-ish pattern that just had one too large bump that repeated every three inches or so.

Aaaargh. I’m probably no fun at movies either.
