Unplanned obselescence

So I’m staring down the barrel of a broken Xbox360 this week.  I know, I know, it’s just a *game box* right?  Well, yeah, it is.  Thing is, Bill Gates and guys at Sony were right.  It’s expanded to fill a larger space.  As a family we’ve done away with the extra tech, we use it to play DVD’s, to download games, to download NetFlix movies, to even pay for episodes of Chuck that we missed last season.  In it’s current state, it will play downloaded material, but the drive is shot so that’s all it does.

So I’m faced with an adult dilemma.  Do I do the irresponsible thing and just go buy a whole new/refurbished unit?  Do I take the extra couple of weeks to research it online and fix the da** thing myself?  (Which would be a ton of fun, actually, but with three kids in the house, I might not be able to pull it off).
